6 Reasons Why Stoney Creek (in Hamilton) Is Hot For Homebuyers

The Devil’s Punchbowl, Stoney Creek, ON

Stoney Creek is a hot new location for homebuyers looking for homes for sale in Hamilton. Here are some reasons why Stoney Creek real estate is a hot commodity at the moment:

1. Location

Stoney Creek was once a city in itself until its amalgamation with Hamilton in 2001. It is now a community in the City of Hamilton. It is centrally located between Toronto, about 70 km away and Niagara Falls about 60 km away. Other nearby cities include Grimsby, Burlington and Oakville. Stoney Creek is accessible by major highways including the QEW, 403 and 407 so getting here is not a problem. In a few more years there is a plan for the GO Lakeshore West train service to extend its route to Niagara Falls with a new stop planned in Stoney Creek along the way.

2. Beach Waterfront/Golf

Stoney Creek is located near Lake Ontario and so residents can enjoy the beach and trails along the waterfront. You can spend the day at the beach sunning yourself, playing volleyball, boating, or just enjoying a snack in the nearby park area. If walking is your bliss, there is a lengthy path right alongside the beach where you can stroll for hours. For all you avid golfers, Scenic Woods golf course, is located on the Niagara escarpment and has been a popular golf destination for over 50 years. With tree-lined fairways and meticulously groomed greens, it is a golfer’s paradise.

3. Canadian History

Did you know that there was an actual battle that occurred in Stoney Creek? It took place on a warm summer night during the War of 1812. The American forces had decided it was time to capture Upper Canada, unfortunately for them the British had discovered that plan and held an ambush which sent the Americans to retreat and so allowed the British to retain the land. Battlefield House Museum and Park was established to commemorate this victorious moment and every year the battle is re-enacted for the hundreds of spectators to witness. The House where the Gage Family lived, is now a museum open to visitors featuring guided tours, workshops, and exhibitions to get a glimpse of times gone by. Definitely a must-see experience.

4. Stoney Creek Wineries, Restaurants and Shops

Stoney Creek can be considered the gateway to the numerous Niagara wineries, if you enjoy touring and tasting then there are plenty here for you. What is wine without a meal?  You will be impressed by the array of restaurants and shops right here in the community. The Village restaurant, a family-owned business offering a variety of home style meals, The Edgewater Manor for the more sophisticated palate, Thai Orchid for that exotic flare, The Express Italian eatery and even McDonald’s. A favourite spot for every member of the family. Don’t forget the local shops like Nardini Specialties, Roma Bakery & Deli and the Punch Bowl Market, my go to for mouth-watering desserts.

5. Schools/Activities for Children

If you have a growing family then this is the community for you. Our community has both public and catholic elementary schools to chose from as well as high schools located in beautiful neighbourhoods. Many are within walking distance from home but there are school buses available for those who live further away as well as public transit. There are also a variety of extra-curricular activities to choose from such as Ice/Hockey arena, Soccer Club, Recreation Centre, Dance schools, Martial Arts clubs and much more. These activities are not just for children though, in many cases adults are welcome too.

6. Conservation areas, Waterfalls and Caves

Fifty Point Conservation area has one of the cleanest beaches on Lake Ontario. It is an 80 Hectare Park equipped with a Marina facility for boaters. There is a place to swim, camp, fish or have a family picnic. Whatever you decide to do, it will certainly be a relaxing, stress-free day. The Devil’s Punchbowl Conservation area is truly a stunning place with its spectacular waterfall and expansive view of the community below and beyond. Perfect place for hiking of all ages. Let’s not forget the Eramosa Karst, nature’s work of art, complete with underground caves and streams as well as meadows and forests. Great for amateur explorers, looking for a little more adventure and beautiful scenery.
