Decluttering Your Home: Expert Tips From Top Newmarket Realtor Jessica Nakamura

January is a time for new beginnings and fresh starts. It's also the perfect month to take on that big project you've been putting off: decluttering your home! Barrie Realtor Jessica Nakamura of Oak & Co. has some top tips for decluttering your home this January.

How To Avoid Overwhelming Yourself

"Decluttering our homes can be an overwhelming task," says top Barrie Realtor Jessica Nakamura, "but it doesn't have to be." Get started now with her top tips for decluttering your Barrie home in 2022!

Planning Is Key To Decluttering Success

Start by making a plan. Decide what areas of your home need the most attention and make a list of specific tasks to complete in each area. This will help you stay focused and avoid getting overwhelmed.

"Pick one small space to start with," suggests Newmarket real estate agent Jessica Nakamura, "and take everything out of that space before putting anything back in. This will really help you see what you have and find things easily."

Don't Be Afraid To Trash Things

Throw away or donate anything that no longer serves a purpose in your life. "This is the hardest part, but it's so important for achieving results," explains Barrie Realtor Nakamura.

Once everything has been removed from an area, take action to reorganize and simplify. "There's no need to buy organizers or storage containers," says East Gwillimbury Realtor Jessica Nakamura, "simply use what you have and be ruthless about getting rid of anything that doesn't serve a purpose."

Time Is Your Friend

Take your time and don't be afraid to ask for help. Decluttering your home can be a big project, but Barrie Realtor Nakamura has some more tips to get you started:

"Start by removing everything from a space and sorting it into three piles. Put the first pile in your car for donation or drop off, put the second pile in another room of your home for storage until needed elsewhere, and keep only what's required in the third pile. This will help you to focus on the task at hand and not be overwhelmed by the amount of work required."

"Finally," concludes Nakamura, "remember that it's okay to take your time. Rome wasn't built in a day and your home won't be decluttered overnight either! But following these simple tips will get you started on the path to a cleaner, more organized home that will save you time and stress."

Before signing off, organization expert & top Barrie Realtor Jessica Nakamura also wants to share some of her favourite organization tools for your home: "a label maker is great for organizing drawers; command hooks are perfect for hanging things like jewelry or scarves on doors or walls; and using command hooks to hang your stockings by the fireplace will help you save time during Christmas season."

"Remember," she concludes, "decluttering is a marathon not a sprint. Enjoy the process of getting rid of things that no longer serve you in order to create more space for living life on your own terms!"
