Over the past 5 years I have completed more than 15 online auctions using the MaxSold platform. Here’s what i’ve learned that will help your auction be successful.

Take High-Quality Photos

Make sure to take clear, well-lit photos of your items from multiple angles. Use a clean and uncluttered background to showcase the items effectively. If there are multiple items in your auction lot, make sure the first photo in the listing shows everything that is included with subsequent photos showing close up views of the individual items.

Write Detailed Descriptions

Provide accurate and detailed descriptions for each item, including dimensions, brand names, any flaws, and relevant information. Make sure to include if the item requires multiple people to transport or if it is a large item that needs to be moved up or down stairs. The more information you provide, the better informed the bidders will be and more likely to place a bid.

Make Sure You Have Enough Items

MaxSold charges a minimum fee for every auction, so you will want to have enough items set aside to make it financially worth your time. I always like to aim for 100 lots valued each at around $30 each. If you have a bunch of smaller items, try lotting them together to make a bigger auction lot.

Make Sure You Have the Right Type of Items

While you can sell almost anything on the MaxSold platform, with the exception of these items, some categories of items do better than others. Clothes, shoes and books tend not to generate high bids and are better suited to be donated or sold on other platforms. Common household items that are oversaturated in the resale market also do not generate high bids on the platform either. Just think of supply and demand- If you can find a dozen of that item in a typical thrift store, you likely shouldn’t expect a bidding war.

Time Your Auction Properly

The more eyes on your auction means the more bids that will roll in. Therefore it is important to time your auction for when the most number of people are available not only the bid, but pick up your items. Avoid having your auction or pick up date run on a long weekend or holiday such. Summer auctions are also quieter as more people are away on holidays and are unable to either bid or pick up items.

If all of this seems too overwhelming for you, remember MaxSold offers all inclusive packages where everything is handled for you from start to finish!.
